Course: Introduction to Game Design

This course is an introduction to game design from concept to finished projects for playability on the PC and console. Topics include basic level design, narrative development, prop design, and creating 3D environments. Student projects will focus on developing conceptual and artistic skills using industry-standard software applications.

Course: Writing and Storyboarding for Games

Research and practice in the creation of an original story, to include storyboards, character development, plot structure and the design of both visual and verbal content. Course will study a variety of visual narrative approaches. Students will use an industry standard software to create animatics, a visual device for storytelling.

Course: Games Study – History of Games:

Critical and historical survey of games as a form of communication and cultural expression, from prehistoric origins to present digital formats. Games studied in relation to the culture and society in which they were created including U.S., Europe, and Japan. Students analyze and evaluate a large cross-section of games, from analog games to digital games.

Satisfies certificate requirements for:

  • Also satisfies area 7 GE requirements for Fine Arts and Languages

Course: Digital Animation/2D Animation Principles

Introduction to 2D digital animation production. Modern 2D animation software creates stylish and cost effective presentations that animators, illustrators, and graphic designers use to create dynamic graphic content for animated shorts and TV shows, marketing, and web animation. Course covers complete production process from concept development to final animation. (Saddleback)

This course is an introduction to 2D character design and animation from concept to finished projects for interactive media arts related industries. Topics include the principles of animation as they pertain to a hand drawn object or character. Student projects will focus on developing conceptual and artistic skills using industry-standard software applications. (IVC)

Software Skills: Adobe Animate

Course: Introduction to Computer Graphics

Introductory computer graphics course which covers many aspects of computer-generated art and design. The student will use Adobe Creative Suite to create art and graphics with software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
